Tonsillitis
The Tonsils are a pair of lymphatic organs situated in the throat
The Tonsils are strategically located to trap what would cause infection or allergy. A tonsil may become enlarged without obvious infection. The enlargement if significant can result in obstructed breathing (the extreme form is called Sleep Apnoea). The adenoid is frequently enlarged as well, The Tonsils & Adenoids may need removal in such a situation.
The Tonsils may be source of recurrent infection (Tonsillitis). If the Tonsil infections occur very frequently (Chronic Tonsillitis) inspite of treatment with antibiotics, a decision to surgically remove the tonsils is undertaken. Read more about Tonsillectomy Surgery
