know the ear

The Ear has three parts The External ear, The Middle Ear and The Inner Ear

The External Ear

Includes the visible part the ear (called the auricle) & the external ear canal

The Middle Ear

The sound conducting part of the hearing mechanism situated immediately behind the ear drum.

The Inner Ear

The organs which maintain the balance (called the Vestibule) & the organ of perception

The External ear

This includes the visible part the Ear (called the Auricle) & the External Ear Canal

The Middle Ear

This is the sound conducting part of the hearing mechanism situated immediately behind the ear drum. The middle ear has three sound conducting bones (called Ossicles) which transmit vibrations of the ear drum to the inner ear (cochlea). The cochlea converts the vibrations into electrical signals which are transmitted to the hearing centre in the brain. The signals reaching the hearing centre are perceived as sound.

The middle ear is an air containing space. Middle ear ventilation required for efficient sound transmission & is provided by the Eustachian tube. The Eustachian tube connects the middle ear with the nasal passages.

The Inner Ear

The organs which maintain the balance (called the Vestibule) & the organ of perception (Cochlea) are situated in the hard bone of the inner ear. They send the signals for maintaining balance & hearing to the higher centres in the brain.
