THROAT SURGERIES
Tonsillectomy
The Tonsils are a pair of lymphatic organs situated in the throat. The Tonsils are strategically located to trap what would cause infection or allergy.
A tonsil may become enlarged without obvious infection. The enlargement if significant can result in obstructed breathing ( the extreme form is called Sleep Apnoea). The Tonsils may need removal in such a situation.
The Tonsils may be source of recurrent infection( Tonsillitis). If the Tonsil infections occur very frequently inspite of treatment with antibiotics a decision to surgically remove the tonsils is undertaken.
The surgical technique of Tonsillectomy has evolved over the years. The modern techniques used are relatively bloodless & also carry lesser incidence of post surgical pain. The techniques used include Laser, Coblation & harmonic scalpel.
Microsurgery & Endoscopic surgery for Vocal cord pathologies
The Vocal cords are the sited for numerous pathological entities most of them fortunately benign. Common pathologies include Cysts (fluid filled sac), Polyps & Nodules. Nodules are attributed to faulty voice habits & common in professional voice users ( Singers, Teachers or any Professional dependent on his voice).
Nodules often regress in size with voice rest & cultivation of good voice habits. They rarely need surgrey.
Cysts & polpys in the Vocal cord are treated mostly by surgery. The Nodules are carefully examined through a microscope or an Endoscope. After careful dissection from the sorrounding area they are removed. A laser may be used for dissection.
